Knot and Natter - Macramé Inspiration from Vicky Powell
Knot and Natter - Macramé Inspiration from Vicky Powell
Following the success of our first Knot and Natter Q&A with Becky, we wanted to bring you more macramé inspiration from another of our lovely customers, Vicky Powell. Vicky has set up her own business, Stringythingys, and we've attached links to her Facebook page and Etsy shop if you'd like to see more
Please could you tell us a bit about yourself?
Hi, my name is Vicky, I live in Tunbridge Wells with my 3 children and husband. I enjoy spending time with family and friends and days out exploring.
What first interested you in macramé?
A friend asked me to collaborate on some macramé kits which rekindled my joy of making and macramé, and it grew from there. As a child I loved crafts and making things and macramé and was always top of my list.
What is your favourite macramé creation you have made to date?
My long white wall hanging - it’s so tactile and I took a lot of time to to get the fringe looking how I wanted it to. I have a thing about making sure the fringes on my work are clump free and as smooth as I can get them. I spend a lot of time brushing! I also really enjoyed making the clutch bag as it conjured up thoughts of hot, summer days to look forward to.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
Are there any particular tutorials you have found useful and would recommend to others?
I have found YouTube great for tutorials, and a lady on Instagram, share.the.knot, who has lots of tutorials on different knots.
Can we see some of your projects so far?
Macramé plant hangers white, green, orange
Available to buy at Etsy
Macramé garden lights/tea light holders

What is your next project going to be?
I have lots of ideas in the pipeline. I am really excited to get working on another large wall hanging and more plant hangers.
We recently published a guide to help our customers and Social Media followers decide which macramé cord to use; what is your go to macramé cord(s)?
Natural single twist 7mm – it's so soft and cosy.

Which tools do you find most useful for your projects (if any)?
A sharp pair of scissors and an ‘S’ hook to hang my projects from when I’m working on them.

Finally, have you got any tips or advice you would pass on to other macramé enthusiasts?
Whatever you are working on try to put your own creative twist on it. If it doesn’t turn out how you had hoped, don’t worry, it’s all part of the creative process, just try again another day.
Thank you Vicky!
